Simply follow these steps:
1. Check modem lights. Red modem lights can tell you if there's no connection, and if PON is green but blinking, it means there is no connection, too.
2. Restart your modem. Wait for 30 seconds to allow device to fully shut off before powering it up again. Restarting modem can also do wonders in refreshing connection and fixing minor issues.
3. Inspect wires and cables. Make sure that wired are securely plugged in and not damaged.
4. Check connection 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz. Your modem has two types of WiFi connections: 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Knowing which one to use can make a significant difference in your internet quality. If you're close to the modem, opt for the 5GHz band. If you're farther away, the 2.4GHz band provides a more stable connection.
5. Watch out for outages. For situations beyond our control, you can watch out for red lights on your modem when there are power outages. Connectivity may be disrupted by outages, or fiber cuts caused by theft or unintentional cuts during road work, or illegal use of signal repeaters.
6. Device management. Consider the number of devices connected to your WiFi and speed of your current plan. If there are plenty of people streaming at home, gaming and working at the same time, it can affect speed. Time to upgrade your plan.
7. WiFi placement matters. The location of your modem plays a significant role in terms of strength. For best results, placing it in the center of the house is best and away from thick concrete walls.
8. Unauthorized devices. Make sure that your modem is secure and not being shared without your knowledge.
