Harold Pinter's Betrayal, Premiere's at Carlos P. Romulo Theatre in RCBC Plaza

As Repertory Philippines moves to its new location at the Carlos P. Romulo Theatre in RCBC Plaza, it promises to showcase new and exciting plays for its 87th season.

Written by Nobel-prize winning playwright Harold Pinter, Betrayal is a poignant tale of an extramarital affair about a couple, Emma and Robert, and Jerry, who happens to be Robert's best friend. The play is a string of incident between the three characters that happen in a span of 9 years.

Betrayal casts includes James Bradwell, James Cooney, and Vanessa White, who all have extensive stage and screen experiences.

Directed by Victor Lirio, a critically acclaimed actor and theatre director who has directed productions both in New York and in London. He has also been a Resident Director on Dr Semmelweis in the West End starring Oscar winner Mark Rylance at Harold Pinter Theatre in London. He was also the former artistic director of Diverse City Theatre in NYC.

Bradwell has performed at Prestigious venues in London, and Cooney has played roles in several productions at The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Old Vic, and most recently, The Almeida Theatre in London. White, on the other hand, is a former member of English-Irish girl group The Saturdays, and has returned to her theatre roots having performed in the West End productions of The Lion King and The King and I.

"I am thrilled to be directing my first production in my home country and at Repertory Philippines," said Lirio. "We will be exploring Betrayal from the second-generation Filipino immigrant experience in London and set it in the contemporary time. Born in England, actors James Cooney and Vanessa White's families are from Davao and James Bradwell's parents are from Naga City. My family is from Batangas. And we will mine our Filipino roots to re-tell this beautiful and complicated story."

Betrayal runs from March 1-3, 8-10, and 15-17, 2024 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theatre in RCBC Plaza Makati. Tickets are available via TicketWorld or marketing@repphil.org, sales@repphil.org

"I sense a real commitment and passion from REP for a global collaboration among Filipino artists," said Lirio. "I'm grateful to REP President and CEO Mindy Perez-Rubio for supporting The Bridge Project's ethos and for having the London-based Filipino actors and me. We're all very excited to collaborate with fellow theatre artists in Manila in presenting one of Pinter's most extraordinary plays."
