Rakusuien is a small private garden located in Hakata, Fukuoka. You won't really know it's there unless you visit Sumiyoshi Temple and coming from Hakata Station. Or you simply saw it on the map and got curious.
Entrance to Rakusuien is not free, there's a token fee of Y100. It opens from 9:00AM to 5:00PM Wednesday to Monday (closed on Tuesdays). They also serve tea at Rakusuien for an additional fee of Y500. More on that on: The Kitchen Goddess at Rakusuien Garden.
The garden has a pond with Koi. You can buy pellets Y100 if you want to feed the fishes. There's also a nice bridge for pictorials, as well as several benches. The garden itself has lots of trees including Maple that changes color during fall season. I'm sure there are also Sakuras but that's hard to tell unless one visits during spring season. There are also lots of seasonal flowers and a small waterfalls which I like because the sound of falling water is so relaxing.
Btw, it was at the onset of fall season when I traveled to Fukuoka so the colors of the leaves haven't changed much. But there's some red and orange and light greens already.
I really enjoyed going to Rakusuien several times because I don't really have a fixed travel itinerary and the garden was really a nice place to chill or read a book or have a picnic. Well, I did bring some sandwiches and chips the few times I went back and the birds kept me company.
There were even some locals doing photoshoots in kimonos (a wedding party and a birthday celebration).
