IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Due to unforeseen incident, FESTIVAL Art Exhibit at the Gateway Gallery will be moved to another date.
*******
Festival, the second solo exhibit of visual artist and painter Ginny Guanco formally opens on May 19, 2022 at the Gateway Gallery in Araneta, Quezon City.
The festive visuals are rendered in different media and aims to depict the festive spirit and joyous disposition of the Filipino.
Known for her striking images of women and still life, Ginny says, "The Filipino is by nature, a happy, festive human being. In spite of hardship and many problems in life, Filipinos are able to smile and see the bright side of things. I express these Filipino qualities in the beautiful faces of my paintings, and ethnic designs, tribal costumes and painted faces to prove my point. Filipino resilience is very empowering, whether one is male or female."
This exhibit follows her first one back in 2016 with the theme- Boho Chic. Ginny, with her equally colorful personality has a degree in Fine Arts from University of Sto. Thomas. She took further studies in the arts at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. in the 70s, winning first prize for a watercolor painting and another first prize in pencil drawing.
And it is not surprising that she taught Art Appreciation, Freehand Drawing, Color Theory at Karilagan Finishing School, as well as Fashion Illustration and Fine Arts at the famous Slim's Fashion and Arts School. She did change her career path and became EIC of City Life Magazine and did Public Relations work prior to retirement.
Ginny's experiences in the world of publishing and PR work have somewhat influenced her renditions of life in color, whether in acrylic or oil or pastel. Her second solo exhibit also lends its tone to local indigenous colors that highlights strong women.
The exhibit is from May 20 to June 2, 2022 at the Gateway Gallery, Araneta City.
