Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs' Edition Finals

Heavy rains didn't dampen the mood last Saturday as Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs' Edition make a final stop at Tiendesitas for its first-ever cooking competition. A total of 10 finalists from NCR showcased their best recipes for the esteemed panel of judges.



"Through this competition, we aim to recognize these chefs who are vital in bringing Filipino cuisine to the world stage. At the same time, we are on a journey to explore and highlight Filipino specialties that are unique to our provinces," said Isla LPG Corp. CEO Ruben Domingo.

For the cook-off, the participants must be a Filipino citizen and has worked as a professional chef with at least three years experience here or abroad. They must be currently employed in a restaurant or hotel or any food service establishment.

The competition was held in 15 locations all over the country that will result in 15 Solane Kitchen Hero finalists. The finalists will then have another cook-off and from that round, it will then be trimmed down to 5 qualifiers who will move on to the grand finals both of which will happen on September 6, 2019 and one of them will be hailed as the champion of the first-ever Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs' Edition.


Criteria for judging includes:

50% featured ingredients
50% originality and creativity

Esteemed judges for the final round are: Solane Kitchen Hero Ambassador Chef Sau del Rosario and Solane Kitchen Hero Competition Director Nancy Reyes-Lumen. They are joined by Chef Karla Reyes, Chef Myke Tatung, and food writer Nina Daza-Puyat.

Wilfredo Penafiel II bagged the #SolaneKitchenHero NCR title with his cordon bleu masterpiece. Aside from the cash prize of P100k, he will also go on a culinary tour in Japan.


Another winner is Maria Regina Reyes who won the special award for her photogenic and delicious open-sandwich creation.


For this event, STI serves as the official school partner along with Midea as co-presenter. Other sponsors include: Masflex, Jolly, Jolly Heartmate Canola Oil, Dona Elena, Dona Elena Al Dente, King Sue, Ajinomoto, Philtranco, FastCat, Chef's Garb, and National Bookstore.
