PLDT Gabay Guro On its 9th Year: Building the Nation One Teacher At A Time

Gabay Guro was born from a common dream of being a catalyst of change in the lives of teachers and since that fateful day nine years ago, that small group of like-minded PLDT executives are still very much active in their passion to make the lives of teachers more brighter. Gabay Guro has also become the CSR arm under the PLDT-SMART Foundation.

The advocacy gave birth to Gabay Guro’s scholarships, trainings, housing and education facilities, livelihood programs, broadbanding and computerization, and teacher’s tribute.

Gabay Guro paid tribute to teachers all over the country (and nearby countries) by bringing attention to their heroic deeds and at the same time, providing them with necessary tools to contribute to the change in the lives of their students and their families.

From its humble beginnings 9 years ago, Gabay Guro has over 1,100 scholars in various state colleges and universities nationwide. There are over 300 LET passers, 496 active scholars as for August this year, and a projected 167 graduates in 2017. Gabay Guro also celebrates the fact that 137 scholars graduated with hornos- 112 cum laudes and 25 magna cum laudes. It has also partnered with local government units to further teacher education.

Gabay Guro has also conducted trainings to thousands and thousands of teachers since 2007. And as of date, it runs eight training programs for teachers- Teacher’s Treasure Chest, English Proficiency Training, Computer Literacy, Emotional Intelligence, Teacher’s Armor, Leadership Training, IT Sustainability and Literacy, and Unleashing Creativity in Teaching.The foundation also does grassroots anti-drug trainings in schools.

The partner schools were also recipients of either computers or laptops or internet connections from PLDT or Smart.

The shortage of educational facilities is also a concern for Gabay Guro. It has elped in the construction of classrooms (especially those hit by calamities) in the provinces. There is over 40 classrooms constructed and and has donated in Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Capiz.

And this year, Gabay Guro will give tribute to teachers once more, along with the biggest gathering of celebrities who will perform for the teachers, our unsung heroes. Venue will be in SM MOA Arena and expect stellar performances from Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Pops Fernandez, James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Ms. Lea Salonga, and Mega Star Ms. Sharon Cuneta, and other surprise guests.
