Velasco who is known for his murals and portraits now explores the female form. His works reflects both classic and modern take on painting are are done in oil and gold leaf on canvass. He loves blending shadows to reveal the natural beauty of his subjects.
“After Rehearsals” captures a ballerina from a top shot, her body bent over, hair tightly tied in a bun, her tutu spread around her, a silk shoe showing at the edge, her hands folded at her ankles; all this amid a gold leaf background.
The artist gets his inspiration from Klimt, Sargeant, Degas, Waterhouse, Bougereau, Whistler, Juan Luna, Jeremy Lipking, Scott Burdick and Daniel Greene.
After his exhibit in Mario's Restaurant, Velasco will go on an exhibit tour in Europe (Geneva, Venice, Rome, Florence, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and Amsterdam).
