Cleaning Tips and How to Maintain Your Appliances at Home

It may be summer in the Philippines, but we usually call the annual home activity of putting things into order- spring cleaning. However, with the quarantine and lockdown and having this pandemic in our midst, most of us (if not all) can really focus on turning the house upside down with our spring cleaning. Of course, we also need to include our appliances such as TV, refrigerator, aircon on our cleaning list because they also gather dust even if we always use them.

With these in mind, EXTREME Appliances is sharing some tips on how to clean and maintain home appliances to keep you and your loved ones healthy:

Removing dust from TV and sanitizing the remote
The TV is one of the most frequently used appliance in the home and even if you clean the house every day, dust is a serious offender. Even if the house is always closed, the doors and windows screened, dust always finds a way to enter ones home and settle on surfaces. This is bad because not many people are aware that it is a common allergen and may even cause serious allergic reaction to some.

Prior to cleaning the TV, make sure that it is turned off. Let it cool down for a while then unplug. Use a soft cloth to wipe the frame of the TV, and the screen to remove the dust. Then with a slightly damp soft cloth (or microfiber cloth), clean the frames, edges and screen again. Do keep in mind to wipe gently so as not to damage the TV especially the screen.

The TV's remote control is just as important and this device can really accumulate dust and dirt front frequent use. Remove the battery and tap the remote in your palm and allow the dust inside to fall out. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth, then wipe it for a second time with alcohol-based wipes or a damp cloth in at least 70% alcohol. This is to ensure that not only dust is removed from the remote but germs as well.

Cleaning filters of air-con
A clean air conditioner is not only energy efficient, but it is also healthy for you since your won't be breathing dirty air that can cause headaches, itchy eyes, and even respiratory problems.

Cleaning the air-con filter must be done on a regular basis especially if you use it frequently. You can either hire a professional cleaner or do it yourself (especially during quarantine/lockdown). Start by removing the panel or frame, remove dust and dirt from its cooling fins using a fine comb, remove visible build-ups or debris using a vacuum. Allow it to dry before assembling it back.

Here's an XTREME tip: Do not use your air-conditioner 24/7. Give it some time to rest because an overworked air-con can damage the compressor and condenser, and you don't want your appliance to conk-out during summer and while still on ECQ, right?

Keep refrigerator clean
The refrigerator is one of the most used and abused appliance in everyone's home. This should really be kept clean at all times since it is where we keep our food- fresh meat, fruits, vegetables, cooked, milk, juices, water.

Make it a habit to clean the refrigerator by regularly checking on the food especially fruits and vegetables because it easily spoils. Throw away spoiled or expired items and make sure that it always smells fresh and clean. Before cleaning the refrigerator though, be sure to remove all the stuff inside and take out all the drawers and shelves. Wash it with soap to make sure that it is grime-free and has no odors. You can use soap, or mix some vinegar or baking soda to the water that you will be using. Before putting the shelves and the drawers back, dry it with a clean cloth.

Here's an XTREME tip:
You can eliminate foul odor inside the refrigerator by putting activated charcoal or open a box of baking soda to absorb the smell. It helps in making it smell clean and fresh.

"While our homes act as our haven in this present situation, there is nothing wrong with ensuring that we are free from any sickness even indoors. Our frontliners are working hard to save each life while risking theirs. Let's do them a favor. Stay at home to avoid the risk of getting the virus. Let's stay healthy,"said Adrian Lim, XTREME Appliances General Manager.

These tips on how to clean and maintain some of your home appliances is helpful in keeping you and your loved ones safe and healthy inside your homes.
