TRAVEL: Lost in Siem Reap: Exploring Siem Reap and Ancient Angkor

I wouldn't have dreamt of going to Siem Reap had it not been for a friend who insisted that we go there but for some unforseen reason, she wasn't able to make the trip. But I and another friend had the best time in Siem Reap.

Of course, prior to our trip, I did a lot of research about the place especially the temples and the famous Angkor Wat.

TRAVEL: Ta Nei Temple

Ta Nei Temple is one of the least popular temples in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap and is in fact not included in the usual temple tours. Maybe because its small in size compared to the other temples and you have to pass by a very long stretch of dirt road to go there. But its on my list of temples to visit in Angkor Wat so skipping is not an option.

TRAVEL: Ta Prohm Temple in Siem Reap

Of all the temples at Ancient Angkor, Ta Prohm has mileage when it comes to popularity thanks to Lara Croft and Tomb Raider. Of course, my friend and I were so excited to visit this since this temple is the reason why we went to Siem Reap. The other reason was because another friend bullied us into travelling to Siem Reap but ended up not joining us (long story).

TRAVEL: Angkor Thom and Bayon

After Angkor Wat, the road leads to the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom. Most of the hired tuktuks, vans, buses, or even those on bicycles stops here to admire the bridge, the river and the gate itself. There was even an elephant and a monkey on two separate days that we visited Ancient Angkor.

So our tuktuk driver left us at the bridge with instructions that he'll be meeting us at the other end.

TRAVEL: Sunrise At Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is one of the well-known temples in Ancient Angkor in Siem Reap and people usually flock here at dawn to witness the sunrise. We bought our tickets the day before so that we need not fall in line in the morning and miss the sunrise.

Alas, we left Rithy Rine Angkor Hotel a bit late than our scheduled 5am so we missed the actual daybreak. Travel time from our hotel to Angkor Wat is roughly 30 minutes. Nonetheless, my friend and I can't help but marvel at the awesome sight before us.

TRAVEL: A Glimpse of Ancient Angkor

Here are some photos of Ancient Angkor located in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Angkor Wat - This is the most popular temple in Ancient Angkor and is also a UNESCO Heritage Site. This temple is quite huge and receives plenty of visitors throughout the day.
