A Day at Singapore's Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

I only have one whole day to go around Singapore even if I was there for almost a week (whole day seminar lah!) so when that day arrived, visiting the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum is on top of my list. Luckily, Singapore is easy to navigate thanks to their train system which I kinda mastered already after being there for several days.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is located at the heart of Singapore's Chinatown. It is quite easy to find coming from the Chinatown MRT station although you need to walk a bit. But you'll find it interesting to walk since there are a lot of shops and restaurants around. And just in case you get lost, just ask for the Chinatown Heritage Center because the temple is just a stone's throw away.

Based on what I read on the internet, Buddha's "tooth" is housed at the temple, hence the name. Aside from being curious, I also love visiting temples. It was a few minutes past 2pm when I arrived at the temple (got sidetracked by a mall) so there were only a handful of tourists going inside. I entered the entrance coming from the Chinatown Heritage Center and was greeted by a big hall lined with  Buddhas for each of the Chinese Animal Zodiac Signs.

Then there's the main hall with the big Quan Yin at the center which looks very magnificent. It was quite a sight and a bit solemn at the same time since there are a lot of tiny Buddhas lining the wall around Quan Yin.

There are also Buddhas wherein one can offer a candle or incense and write wishes on a piece of paper.

After going around the hall at the ground floor area, I went in search of the museum (prior to visiting the temple, I wasn't aware that there's a museum) which I overheard from some tourist. It is quite hard to find it since it is not inside the main hall. Should you happen to visit the temple, simply ask for directions to the elevator and you're all set to go around the museum on the third floor.

Here at the Buddhist Culture Museum you'll find Buddha statues in many forms like the one picture below which came from Angkor Wat. Read more about Angkor Wat here: Sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Going around the Buddhist Culture Museum is like entering Aladin's Cave because there are many precious artifacts inside. Here's another photo of Buddhas which came from Thailand.

There are so many Buddha artifacts to see which one can also take pictures but there's a part inside the museum wherein it is really meant for the eyes only and one can't take pictures there. I won't spoil it for you should you happen to visit Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.

  1. When we visited Singapore, we also went to Buddha's temple. We didnt bother going inside and taking photos. I don't know what's my mood that day for not taking even photos. But what amazed me was the followers and devotees praying as they burn incense. Perhaps that alone left me in awe that I didn't bother going far.

    1. Planning to have another round at this temple. Very picturesque. But yeah, I also visited some temples that left me speechless and I wasn't able to take a single photo.

  2. It's good that you were able to sneak in some cultural sight-seeing. One whole week in a country and only 1 day to go around? Unfair hahaha

    1. True, super unfair that I only have 1 day to go sightseeing. But on the brighter side, that's reason enough to go back ;)

  4. We're planning a trip to SG soon and that temple is in our itinerary. Nakakaexcite naman that it's cave-like ang dating, hihi.
