To ease the time spent waiting in traffic, people usually turn to their mobile phones to keep themselves busy and updated with the news, their friends, etc. And to help address this woes, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), along with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metro Rail Transit Development Corp (MRT)., Light Rail Transit Authority, Light Rail Manila Corp., Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Manila Electric Co., Philippine Reclamation Authority, the local government units of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and Quezon City, A&A, PLDT- Smart, and Globe Telecom all joined hands to provide commuters with the EDSA Free Wifi Project.

A speed test conducted by the NTC to check the EDSA internet using the OOKLA Speedtest on July 6-7, 2017, Wifi EDSA showed average download and upload speeds of 156.6Mbps and 135.8Mbps respectively.
Among the speed tests conducted by the NTC and DICT in EDSA, Ortigas MRT Station has the fastest download speed of 325.28Mbps, while Magallanes MRT Station has the highest upload speed at 310.57Mbps.
As of date, the MRT with the heaviest usage of Free Wifi are in the following areas: Taft Avenue, North Avenue, Cubao, Ayala, Shaw Boulevard, and Boni Stations; and a total of 230,000 daily commuters were able to connect to the EDSA Free Wifi based on the 444,044 daily MRT 3 commuters. NTC and DICT, along with its partners aims for a 24 kilometer coverage of the EDSA Internet.
