Globe Telecom's Digital Thumbprint Program

One of the advocacy project of Globe Telecom that I really like is its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) which is aimed at high school students around the country.

The DTP teaches high school students about being responsible digital media users, such as online ethics and how to be careful in giving out pertinent information.

Quick Facts on DTP:

What is the DTP: The Globe Digital Thumbprint Program is a school-based educational program for high school students covering the understanding of online connectivity and the importance of responsible digital citizenship.

Key Objectives: The Globe Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) aims to promote the truth and benefits of a wonderful digital national for the Philippines through awareness and education of online security, etiquette, empowerment and positive digital citizenship for all.

Program is open to all interested high schools nationwide that want to educate students on becoming responsible digital citizens.

Importance of DTP

The youth are greatly represented in the online community. It is imperative that the next generation learns the importance of online health safety, and digital citizenship so they can take full advantage of the technology that surround them.

In efforts to advocate a wonderful digital nation, Globe has committed to air in the development of responsible, proactive, young netizens now and in the future for themselves and for the Philippines.

Origins:

Co-designed by the Karrikins Group, DTP is composed of a series of workshops patterned after the Optus DTP in-school program where it has already reached 81,000 high school students across Australia.  Globe also aims to do the same by educating as many Filipino youth on digital citizenship in view of a recent Philippine National Police report that half of the internet users are adolescents aged 17 years old and below.

Pilot Launch

The program was launched this January in Sico 1.0 National High School in Batangas, and Dasmarinas East Nation High School, covering 2000 students. (also GFS schools).

Workshop Content:

DTP offers three exciting modules for students. Each module is designed to increase students’ knowledge of digital citizenship and cyber safety by taking a critical look at their online behavior and helping them develop insights into the influences of the online world and the choices they are making.
·         The Digital Insight workshop provides activities to help students discern proper online behavior,
·         Digital Impact tackles issues on technology's impact on students' social activities
·         Digital Ambition equips them with skills on how to use technology to achieve life goals.

How to help:

To nominate a school for DTP, simply fill out this form http://glbe.co/DTPNomination  with the necessary details or email bridgecom@globe.com.ph.  The Globe Citizenship team will use this information to contact the school directly to arrange a schedule with them for the DTP workshops. For additional questions on DTP, you may email bridgecom@globe.com.ph.
