Dishwashing Liquid Ingredients as Effective Disinfectant

A study was conducted by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) to study other options regarding disinfecting homes and offices. The study was commissioned by the Japan Ministry of Pandemic in response to the pandemic, and also because of the sudden shortage of alcohol in the global market which was needed in medical facilities, as well as home and workplace.

The result shows that some cleaning actives (also known as surfactants), when used at the right levels, is also effective in disinfecting germs and viruses. Test by Japan's NITE confirmed that there is a significant reduction in the virus on items or surfaces that are exposed to a surfactant diluted to 0.05%-0.2% for twenty seconds to five minutes.

Based on the study conducted, there are seven types of surfactants commonly present in household products like dishwashing liquids:

Sodium linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (0.1% or more)
Alkyl glycoside (0.1% or more)
Alkylamine (0.05% or more)
Benzalkonium chloride (0.05% or more)
Benzethonium chloride (0.05% or more)
Dialkyldimethyl ammonium chloride (0.01% or more)
Polyoxyethylene alkylether (0.02% or more)

With this knowledge, disinfecting the home and offices using dishwashing liquids that contains this ingredients are beneficial and reliable substitute to alcohol-based disinfectants. This is also much easy to source and doesn't cost much.
