For timers and anyone planning to see The Notebook, don’t forget to bring your hankie or tissues !
Despite my reminders to bring some, I forgot to bring them— don’t be like me haha.
While The Notebook film is loved by many, watching this musical adaptation was my introduction to its story. Hearing Allie and Noah’s love story was like hearing your grandparents’ love story—you have an idea of how it started, and how it unfolded.
The overall story is pretty straightforward and it was easy to guess what will happen next. Even with the simple story, the vocal powerhouse cast brought it to life.
* Old Allie and Noah with their emotional performances of battling with dementia
* Young Allie and Young Noah painting us a picture of young romance across different social classes; and last but not the least,
* Middle Noah and Middle Allie realizing their love for each other was always there.
Adding to the depth of the adaptation was the introduction of characters who play a minor yet impactful role that hit the emotional arrow in their battle against dementia. These scenes really kept me glued to my seat. And the minute I could, I was wiping a tear using my sleeve.
The musical was also of course complimented by the orchestra, the set and stage effects that brings familiar scenes to life (and yes this is coming from someone who hasn’t watched the movie, hint hint).
And while The Notebook holds a modern classic tearjerker status among film-watchers, this doesn’t fall short of humorous moments. A personal favorite was whenever the ‘new PT’ takes the stage.
The Notebook may already be a familiar story, but it is one still worth watching. It only has 18 shows from September 3 to 20, 2026 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Circuit Makati. Be sure to catch it while you still can.
