Six Chinese films of different genre are highlighted and is organized in partnership with the Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies, the Embassy of People's Republic of China in the Republic of the Philippines, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines. These will be shown from January 19 to 26, 2020 at Red Carpet in Shangri-La Plaza.
The featured films are: The Great Wall by Zhang Yimou. This is about the arrival of European mercenaries during the Song Dynasty and they help defend the Great Wall of China agains monstrous creatures. There's also Little Door Gods, an animated film about a family who realized that Chinese deities are real. Another animated film is The Monkey King 2. This is about a Tang Priest who was appointed by Buddha to look for sacred scriptures. If you love sci-fi, there's Battle of Memories- a story about a writer opted for some of his memories to be erased but suddenly finds himself different when his wife demands that he restores his memory and he was given someone else's. For those who prefers a good laugh, Jian Bing Man is a parody of a superhero gone bonkers. And lastly, another comedic film is the musical- Our Shining Days, the musical film centers on high schoolers who try to revive a Chinese orchestra ensemble amidst the popularity of Western classical music.
Aside from the Chinese films, Shangri-la Plaza mall-goers will also be treated to Traditional Chinese paintings and scrolls exhibit- Confucius Institute Painting Exhibit from January 19 to 26. There will also be a special Chinese musical event by the Philippine Cultural College Chinese Orchestra and a Wu Shu and Lion Dance by Northern Rizal Yorklin School scheduled on January 25 from 2:00pm to 3:330pm. A Chinese Painting workshop will be conducted by the Art Association of the Philippines President, Master Fidel Sarmiento and Vice President Roger Santos, this will be on January 26, 2020 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
