Old Orchard Cranberry Juice: Tips On Having Healthy Kidneys

Kidneys are small two-bean shaped organ in the body but it has an important function such as expelling waste from the body, regulate the production of red blood cells, balance body fluids, and releases hormones that helps regulate blood pressure.

It may seem insignificant in size but with the kidneys' important role in the body, it deserves attention and care. According to research by the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Kidney Failure is the 7th leading cause of death among Filipinos and an estimated 30,000-40,000 patients undergo dialysis every year. Although kidney disease can't be cured, there are ways to preventing it from happening and that is by taking care of our urinary tract.

Old Orchard has some tips on how to prevent urinary tract infection and kidney infections:

1. Healthy Diet and Regular Exercise.
Having high blood pressure and diabetes can take a toll on a person's kidneys. Proper diet and preference for healthy food like fruits and vegetables is a must especially those food rich in calcium. However, it is noted that calcium supplements is not as effective as it can result to kidney stone formation when taken in excess. Regular exercise though is helpful in regulating the flow of blood in the body and helps keep the body active.

2. Quit Smoking.
Smoking is generally bad for the health. Research study shows that smoking can affect the flow of blood to the kidneys and this may result in kidney impairment and increase the risks of kidney cancer by 50%.

3. Consult a Doctor and Follow Instructions Well.
Too much medicine is bad for the kidneys as having high levels of toxins can overwork the kidney. Also avoid self-medication and buying medicines suggested by friends. Consult a doctor and follow medicine instructions to a T!

4. Regular Check-up.
People with a family history of diabetes or high blood pressure must always have regular check-up and this mean that you have to have your kidneys tested, too. Test results with high creatine level means that there is a problem with your kidneys. Normal creative level for women is 1.2 and 1.4 for men.

5. Increase Fluid Intake.
Keeping yourself hydrated can help lower the risk of kidney stone formation. Of course, it means drinking more water and not carbonated drinks. Health experts recommend drinking at least two liters  of water (and other healthy fluids) per day to help flush toxins from the kidney and clean the urinary tract as well. Adding cranberry juice to the daily fluid intake helps in flushing out the irritants in the urinary tract. Cranberry juice is rich in Vitamin C and is also a source of Flavonoid and Phytonutrient known as Hippuric Acid and Proanthocyanidin. These two helps prevent UTI-causing bacteria from sticking to the bladder and urinary tract, thus helps aid in keeping the kidney healthy.

Old Orchard Cranberry has three variants: Cranberry, Apple Cranberry, and Cranberry Raspberry. There are also variants for diabetics which has 75% less sugar and has only 20% calories: Healthy Balance Cranberry and Healthy Balance Apply Cranberry.
