My VCO Story

VCO is Virgin Coconut Oil. It has been making waves for the past couple of years and more and more people are now using it. But wait, didn't our lolos and lolas already use coconut oil years ago but we just didn't take notice of it because its not visually and olfactory appealing?

Fast-forward to 2013 when hubby brought home a big bottle of VCO. Our daughter was then in her pre-teen years and we're giving her pointers on how to combat pimples and acne, and insect bites by using VCO which is a better alternative than using counter creams and ointments. Hubby also use VCO for his long mane.

Presently, my daughter is an avid fan of VCO and can't seem to sleep without using it on her face before going to sleep. She said that her pimples dries up fast when she uses it. She also tried it once when she had mouth sores and it worked. I also use VCO whenever I get oil splatters when I cooked.

But the real VCO test was when I got second degree burn from oil splatter when I was frying "tawilis" a few months back. For some unknown reason, the hot oil ended up on my mid-section and it was quick thinking that saved my tummy and luckily, we still have a half-full of ProSource Virgin Coconut Oil available at home. Lucky also that most of the oil ended up on my clothes. I applied the oil lavishly on my burned mid-section, I can already see the beginning of red marks.

The oil accident happened during lunchtime and I've been applying VCO till about six in the evening.  What I noticed when I first applied VCO on my burned skin was that it has a cooling effect. The burning sensation from the hot cooking oil vanished as soon as I literally poured VCO on it, and for that I am thankful that I need not go to the E.R. Another miracle was that my burn didn't develop watery blisters although the ones on the photo looked like it did. So after about 5 hours of applying VCO on the burnt part of my mid-section, I then applied some antibiotic cream so that it will heal and dry fast.

Presently, I still have scars on my mid-section but no keloids (thankfully). The scars are smooth and flat, and I apply a different oil to make the scar vanish (although it might take a few more months since I sometimes forget to do it).

So that's my VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) story. What's yours?

  2. We use the same VCO as our carrier oil for eo blends. It has an awful smell but I find it effective when I used it to my son. I didn't know it can be used on pimples. Will definitely try it. Thanks for sharing!

  4. VCO is an amazing thing. I remember mga 15 years ago, my parents were already using VCO. I didn't because I was a teenager and I found it annoying haha. I should have listened to my parents!

  11. ohhh I wish I knew before pa that VCO can help with burns. I have a similar oil splatter burn on my right arm. I never got around to doing anything to it except place my arm immediately under running water. I hope VCO can still remove it or at least lighten it man lang.

    1. Hi sis, if the burn is still "new," maybe VCO can help. Otherwise, use Bio-Oil for the scar. That's what I use and I find effective for scars :)
